Kamala Harris was born in 1964.  Her mother, Shyamala Goplan, emigrated from Chennai, India to pursue a doctorate in nutrition and endocrinology at the University of California-Berkeley.  Her Jamaican father, Donald Harris, was at the university studying economics.  Kamala inherited their love of political activism.  She attended Howard University, where she majored in political science and economics.

Kamala’s storied career began as a lawyer in the San Francisco City Attorney’s office working on child abuse and domestic violence crimes.  In 2004, she defeated two-term incumbent Terence Hallihan to become the first woman and the first person of color to hold seat as San Francisco’s district attorney.

Her presidential campaign launch in Oakland, California drew 20, 000 people, a bigger crowd than former President Barack Obama drew when he launched his run for the seat in 2007.

Kamala’s sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated are the “foot soldiers of a powerful voting block” and may be the secret weapon in propelling her to victory. (CNN)

Skee you in office Soror Kamala!

Learning To Love Yourself: Unhappiness Leads To Bitterness

Self-hug Author unknown

Being unhappy within can cause people to become sensitive and bitter.  The self-hate is projected outwardly towards others, causing relationship challenges and leaving those in your path with hurt feelings.

One of the key steps to experiencing happy, healthy relationships is to first love yourself.  This entails forgiving yourself for past mistakes and accepting all your flaws.

Look in the mirror and say, “I forgive you and I love you”.  Heal.  You are now on the way to being able to give and receive the love you deserve from yourself and others.

Ten Things To Keep In Mind To Make Life A Little Better

1. Trust your instincts.
If it doesn’t feel right…it probably isn’t.

2. Treat others the way you want to be treated.

I like to call it the boomerang effect.  What you do to someone else will always find its way back to you.

3. Remember your manners.

The words ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ go a long way.  Stay classy my friends.

4. Never allow ‘things’ to own you.

When the curtain closes…you can’t take material possessions with you.

5. Nurture your friendships.

Good friends are like teeth…neglect them and they will leave.

6. Be Grateful.

Give thanks for who and what is in your life now.  Stop wasting precious moments thinking about who and what is not.

7. Believe in yourself.

There is nothing like you, there was nothing like you, and there shall be nothing like you.  Share your gifts with the world.

8. Never stop playing.

Remain a kid at heart.  Have fun!

9. Keep your hands clean.

Literally and figuratively…it will save you some regrets later.

10. Remember you are loved.

Go where you are celebrated.

Cheers to a happy, healthy and prosperous new year!
