Pat McGrath Allure Magazine
Pat McGrath was born in Northampton, England to a makeup loving Jamaican single mother. Pat was seven years old when she first received makeup tips from her mother. Her career as a makeup artist took off in the 1990s. Pat’s clientele included the likes of Naomi Campbell and Gigi Hadid.
At 53, Pat now sits atop an industry that has excluded black women for decades. After a $60 million minority stake investment by New York City-based Eurazeo Brands, Pat McGrath Labs is now worth over $1 billion.
Pat has been dubbed one of the most influential makeup artists on the planet.

Dr. Siobahn Day North Carolina A&T
In 2015, women earned only 18% of all computer science degrees in the nation. On July 5, 2018, Dr. Siobahn Day made history and added to this percentage by becoming the first woman to ever graduate with a Ph.D. in computer science from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
Siobahn Day has worked for three years to make history, not only for herself but for North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
Day successfully defended her dissertation on Thursday to become the first woman to graduate N.C. A&T’s computer science doctoral program.
“It’s surreal,” said Day, a Chancellor’s Distinguished Fellow. “Sometimes you think you aren’t good enough and it’s a lot of pressure but it’s an honor.”
